The MKH-Biennale is not merely a showcase for outstanding works
of art. It has become an integral part of our cultural landscape with a lasting impact
that stretches beyond the boundaries of Halberstadt.
I would like to extend my special thanks to the Kuratorium Stadtkultur Halberstadt e.V.,
the City of Halberstadt, Harz University of Applied Sciences, the Evangelical Church
Congregation, and all the volunteers who, with great dedication and passion, have once
again made this project possible.
St. Martini Church, as the exhibition venue, is a symbol of change and new beginnings. In 1989, it served as a starting point for the Peaceful Revolution in Halberstadt, and today it once again stands for dialogue, openness, and social cohesion. The Biennale builds on this tradition by not only showcasing art but also creating spaces for conversation, exchange, and debate—in the true spirit of a vibrant democracy.
The exhibiting artists draw on their experiences from the era of the GDR, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the present day. Their works reflect personal and societal upheavals and invite us to reflect on the past, present, and future. I particularly welcome the fact that the Biennale specifically targets children and young people, offering them creative inspiration and opportunities for critical reflection.
The MKH-Biennale is not only a place to encounter outstanding works of art and
fascinating artists’ biographies; it also stands for mutual understanding and shared
learning. It demonstrates how art builds bridges—between generations, ways of life,
and forms of artistic expression. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone
involved for their dedication.
